To aid the spread of native seeds to areas cleared of brush, we will be holding a few additional workdays between our regular monthly workdays this fall. The 9:00 AM meeting place will be at 122nd Street and 2nd Avenue, by the orange gate. Join us for all or part of the workday. Click here for a map.
If you have questions for this extra workday, please email or text/call Eric at 262.320.7313.
What We’re Doing:
We’ll first spend time looking for and collecting native seeds throughout the prairie. Towards the end, we will scatter the seed in an area that was cleared of brush earlier this year.
What to Bring:
- Appropriate footwear for rough ground.
- Appropriate clothing for the weather conditions.
- A daypack, sunscreen/hat, tick repellent, and leather gloves, and safety glasses suggested.
- A water bottle(s) and snacks.
- We will have some seed collection bags available. If you have a container such as a clean, plastic one gallon milk jug(s) (with top removed and the handle still intact) and an old belt to hold the collection container around your waist (in order to keep both your hands free), please bring. Click here for an example. Empty, clean large paper grocery bags will work as well.
- We will have some hand clippers available, but if you have a favorite pair of hand clippers you want to use, feel free to bring them along. We will mainly be hand collecting seed this time so a hand clippers will not necessarily be needed.
There will be a liability and waiver form for volunteers to sign before the start of work. Please arrive 5-10 minutes early to sign-in. We hope to see you there!
