Monthly Update – November 2016

Posted on

Greetings Volunteers and all Friends of the Prairie,

Much of the Prairie has turned to shades of tan and brown and DNR is planning to burn south of 116th Street next week, weather permitting. Last month we had a very productive workday removing brush from one of the privately owned lots for which the owner had given a management agreement. The lot is one of those odd rectangles of tall brush which dot the Prairie and provide an endless supply of buckthorn berries to make control very difficult. To be able to manage these lots is a gift.

This Saturday we will finish cutting and treating brush on the lot we started in October and, hopefully, begin another for which the private owner has given permission. We will be lopping and sawing, painting stumps and hauling, lots of fun work! The weather prediction is for mostly cloudy skies with 41 degrees the high and a northwest wind 25 to 35 mph. Dress warmly in layers and remember an ear covering hat! As always, we provide tools and gloves. The monthly workday is from 10 AM to 1 PM. Come for part or all of it.

We will meet on 2nd Avenue at 121st Street.
