Chiwaukee South - Work Schedule: 3rd Saturday of each month 10A.M. - 2 P.M.
Meet north of 122nd Street and 2nd Avenue unless noted below.2008 Work Party Dates/Events:
April 19, 2008
- Pick up trash along all ditch lines.
- Treat garlic mustard and dames rocket.
- Cut and treat woody invasives (common/glossy buckthorn, honeysuckle, cherries, etc).
May 17, 2008
- Pull garlic mustard and dames rocket that was not treated in April.
- Monitor black swallowwort, hairy willow herb, reed canary grass, crown vetch and any pioneering leafy spurge.
- Girdle aspen.
May 18, 2008 : Plants of Concern Monitoring Workshop : U.W. Parkside
June 21, 2008 : Chiwaukee Bird 'Blitz' (Survey) beginning at 5:00 am. Birders experienced with IDing by sight/call needed and who may also be available to take other birders with. Areas will be assigned throughout the Chiwaukee Prairie Natural Area. Some participants must be willing to walk in various conditions (standing water, head high vegetation and with the ticks!). - Monitor and treat black swallowwort.

- Mow/cut sweet clover and Canada thistle.
- Keep eye out for larger areas of clover so that it can be cut prior or at July work party.

- Remove pods from/treat black swallowwort.
- Queen Anne’s lace - cut or pull in high-quality areas.
- Monitor/treat purple loosestrife.
- Mow/pull sweet clover.
- Monitor/pull/treat hairy willow herb.
- Monitor and cut flower heads from Canada thistle.
- Seed collection of spring bloomers.
August 16, 2008
