Chiwaukee Prairie is a haven for rare plants.  At least 23 Wisconsin-listed rare plants are known to grow in Chiwaukee Prairie.  Right on the border with Illinois, the prairie is home to an additional 13 species considered rare in Northeast Illinois.  This makes Chiwaukee Prairie the ideal site to expand the Chicago Botanic Garden's Plants of Concern (POC) monitoring program into Wisconsin.

The POC program is a citizen-based, volunteer plant population monitoring project that hopes to collect long-term population data on the region's rare plants
(see http://plantsofconcern.org for more information).

The Chiwaukee Prairie Preservation Fund is looking for volunteer monitors to help us document rare plant population trends.   A training session will be held on May 18, 2008.  If you think you might be interested, please contact Lori Artiomow atfor more information.

This project is supported by grants from:
WDNR Citizen-based Monitoring Partnership Program
and
Wisconsin Energy Corporation Foundation
